tribute to jim

kung sino ka man
na nakabihag sa puso ng aking "tol"
magpakilala ka na
ang panagarap nya'y ikaw ang ukol
hindi mo lang alam
at di mo din tanto
bawat ngiti mo'y
para sa kanya'y talo pang ginto
kumikinang at kumukutitap

Me, Charles and Jim recently attended a wedding...
how magical
this reminds me of a poem...

tungkol sa pag-ibig...
not that romantic ... but o well

Poetry!

Wow!!! poetry... i don't really have anything to say about poetry because... well, it's not that i don't know anythintg about it... it's just that.. sometimes.. it's discouraging to do something related to poetry or art for that matter. I learned in my LITERA classes that what you think is poetry might not really be poetry... you made a poem... that's nice.. but unless someone else recognizes it as a poem.. then it's not. No, your mother or your girlfriend is not credible enough a source to consider that a poem. a poem has passion... no your poem about your girlfriend is NOT a poem... a poem must have measures... ever consider free verse? and finally, poetry has standards... "then why the heck would you rather consider a comma in the middle of a paper poetry compared to the one i wrote about my girlfriend's hair gleaming like the rays of the sun??" this may all just sound like ranting... but i hope i got my point across that.. poetry.. is just so.... wierd...

random thoughts again.. about poetry

Among the numerous literary works, one of my favorites would be poetry. In just a number of verses, one can unlock the soul in different perspectives. Chosen words that can portray so much meaning, such as the word “sun”, it may describe light, God, yearning, burning, and so much more. Through a poem, it can tell a story or a feeling. I love how with just one line, one can express the soul and at times, it can even be etched on a person forever.

random thoughts

For the generation now, there are some who are comfortable in writing in the Filipino language; there are those who want to read in the English text. For me, I will not deny that English is more my forte, I suppose it was how I was raised. I guess that is another realization, you cannot really say that a poet is less nationalistic or not, it depends on what they were accustomed to just like me. I studied in a school wherein English language was mostly used by the students and faculty. I may be more used to English, but it does not mean that I do not appreciate Filipino poetry. For me, the content is much more important.

Ang Palaka

Palaka, palaka, sadyang nakakaawa

Unscripted Balagtasan

Wouldn't it be nice to see an actual balagtasan that wasn't memorized? Perhaps the Debate Socitey can conduct such event during August. The topics should be relevant to our time and somebody should win. In the traditional balagtasans, the topics are usually "weird", for example, which is more important, the sun or the moon and similar topics. Of course if that were the topic it is natural that no one will win the argument.
It's nice if the topics will focus current events and issues like charter change etc. but in a poetic sense.

I should have reported Amado V. Hernandez

It was only after I reported that I found out that was Amado V. Hernandez was a also a writer during the American period. AVH's poem "Kung Tuyo na ang Luha Aking Bayan" is my favorite poem. The words are very powerful, moving and depicts the somewhat eternal suffering of our Mother Land. I'll post it here so that everyone can read it.

My report on this poem will follow. :D

i wonder why?

corned beef?

because of pepper corn... hmmm

wonder if someone wrote a poem on that... hahaha

i noticed something

you can tell a lot about a poem from the history of the poet

for example, if a poem talked about the hardships of life and about the americans
most probably, he or she was present during the american occupation in the philippines

just shows how experience has great influence on a writer's work

pic of the poet: Jose Garcia Villa

that's him! hehe Jose Garcia Villa

Contributors to Philippine poetry

just read about jose garcia villa... he is a pretty eccentric guy ha...

in one article, he went to a party wearing a shiny attire with an ordinary knotted cow's rope

another time, he sat at Dalupan Hall at UE... buddha way of sitting... and someone asked, What are u doing? he said, "i am just catching up trying to be immoral"

an unconventional artist... kakaiba
